Lifeline WA provides all Western Australians experiencing a personal crisis or thinking about suicide with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.
Our 13 11 14 service is a nationally-routed crisis support number, available every day of the year, from any location in Australia. It is available to anyone – regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.
Somewhere in Australia there is a new call to Lifeline every 32 seconds. Last year, more than 46,000 Western Australians contacted us for support via the 13 11 14 service. Many were after advice or self-help information for friends and family. Others were reaching out for someone to listen to their concerns. Typically, callers in crisis find that painful changes or problems are increasing their distress and overwhelming their capacity to cope.
See what the wonderful Telephone Crisis Support Volunteers have to say.
We offer 3 volunteering opportunities:
- Telephone Crisis Supporter – Our primary volunteering opportunity where volunteers are thoroughly trained to take calls from people in the community who are in crisis including those contemplating suicide.
- Community Visitor Scheme – Our volunteers in this program have the very rewarding experience of befriending elderly members of the community who have become isolated and lonely.
- Events – Volunteers in this space are called upon to support the successful running of fundraising events throughout the year. There is no training required and opportunities are ad-hoc but every little bit helps to support Lifeline WA.
Paid work is also available throughout our departments and are usually offered internally to our volunteers first before being advertised on Seek.
