iPREP WA Industry & PHD Research Engagement Program

iPREP WA is an initiative to support research collaboration between the universities and industries of Western Australia. The program will involve interdisciplinary teams of PhD students, from all five WA universities, working on a six week project with an industry partner during their thesis examination period. Industry partners may be from business, government and community settings and their projects will focus on solving authentic workplace problems. This may be through conducting research or creating something new.

Research Student Benefits

In addition to a $3000 tax-free scholarship for completing the fulltime 6-week program, students will gain increased and more diverse career opportunities through developing skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Business acumen, including experience in identifying business needs and participating in business processes.

  • Strategic problem solving in the workplace, where solutions are practical given a wide range of constraints.

Requirements

To apply for iPREP WA, you must currently be enrolled as a PhD candidate at a university in Western Australia, and:

  • have submitted a thesis for examination by the program commencement date, but not yet had your degree conferred;
  • be available to participate in self-directed preparation activities and a two-day induction workshop prior to commencing the project;
  • attend weekly 2 hour seminars;
  • be available to complete the project on a full-time basis during the scheduled 6-week project period
  • (contact hours will be negotiated with team members and industry partner); and
  • have the support of your supervisor or appropriate referee.
