The Department of Regional Development is a vibrant agency with a clear agenda to develop thriving towns and communities in regional Western Australia. It promotes and facilitates economic, business and social development in regional Western Australia.

The department administers the State Government’s multi-billion dollar Royalties for Regions program and works in partnership with independent authorities such as the Regional Development Commissions, Regional Development Council, and the Western Australian Regional Development Trust, and collaboratively across government agencies, the private sector, and community partners.

Since the program commenced in 2008, Royalties for Regions has allocated more than $4.2 billion to over 3,500 individual projects across the nine regions in Western Australia. Investment is channelled into projects such as housing, health, education, culture, recreation, environment and economic development, which build capacity in regional communities.
