Getting connected

Getting connected

So, you’re a third-year student ready to go out into big wide world and get a proper job? Where do you start?

Seek is a good, if predictable, choice, and Jobactive is a neat way to maybe snag something not listed on Seek. The problem is that every grad and their dog uses Seek and, furthermore, there’s a lot of non-relevant jobs clogging things up. You really need something a lot more specific and direct. That’s where GradConnection comes in.

What is GradConnection?
GradConnection is a website made by graduates for students and graduates. It allows you to identify the industry opportunities you want to hear about, search for the jobs that you’re interested in, research the companies you want to work for, and talk with other grads. They even have their own blog, with articles from students, universities and employers, ensuring a comprehensive guide to securing your first job.

What does GradConnection offer?

  1. Option to create a personalised profile employers can view, and perhaps use to invite you to apply for a job
  2. Emails with information on the latest job postings sent directly to you
  3. Ability to contact employers directly through Q&A sessions informing you on the best way to secure the position
  4. Forums to talk with other students and graduates, even some networking using that LinkedIn account you signed up with (hint, hint)

And, of course, the grad-specific job-search function akin to Seek is one of the main draws of GradConnection.

Getting started with GradConnection.
GradConnection is both easy to use and simple to sign up with. You can create a free account using any of the following – email, Facebook, Google or LinkedIn (handy).

Obviously, it helps to be a penultimate (second to last year of study) or final year student, but it’s not essential. In fact, even if you’re not a soon-to-be grad, check it out now anyway. Having the time to play around and familiarise yourself with GradConnection will let you hit the ground running come graduation time.

GradConnection also hosts the Top 100 Future Leaders Competition – a truly unique opportunity to develop your application skills, communication skills, and personal branding to give you a head start on your career.
Applications close on the Monday 5 October 2020, for more information and to apply, please visit Top 100 Future Leaders.
