Entertaining Our Elders, a new online program from Curtin Volunteers!, sees talented Curtin students bringing live music performances to seniors in aged care facilities through video conferencing technology.
We recently spoke to some of the people involved…
“One of the last traits my grandmother retained in her journey with dementia was her love of music. Working on the establishment of the ‘Entertaining our Elders’ program and bringing music performances into the lives of aged care residents through video conference has been especially close to my heart. It’s been a privilege to enjoy the company of the SwanCare residents and a pleasure to work with committed and generous student volunteers. We owe it to our seniors, those who have given up so much of their lives to help us build ours, to ensure we remain socially connected with them during these trying times.”

Entertaining Our Elders Program Coordinator
“I signed up to the ‘Entertain our Elders’ program as I wanted to assist my community during the COVID-19 situation, and this program provided me with an outlet to give back to the seniors in our community whilst also providing me with an audience to perform to! I love seeing the smiles on their faces as they hear the music and even sing along. Taking a little bit of time out of my day brightens up both my week and the seniors I play to.”

“Music is such an important and cherished part of our residents’ lives. It was such a lovely way for our residents to enjoy some live music, they were so impressed and had a wonderful time.”
