Happy 2020! According to some, we’re not in a new decade until this year has run its course. All the more reason to make it special and do something different.
Some of things you might contemplate this year could include:
- Take on some work experience and, if you can’t find paid work, be sure to follow the Fair Work Ombudsman rules around doing work for free. Think of the experience as an investment in your future.
- Secure a mentor. Get connected to a professional in your chosen field – or even out of it – for insight and valuable intel. Careers, Employment & Leadership run a mentor program for Curtin students each year, and you can express your interest early.
- Join something – even if you’re not a joiner! Push yourself a little to connect to like-minded people. It could be something academic or based around an interest – or just for fun! If you’re stuck for ideas or in a rut about how to connect, you can get in touch with the Careers, Employment & Leadership team for some suggestions.
- Work on a weakness. If you’re rubbish at time-management, invest in a diary – electronic or otherwise. If you’re inherently lazy – do more! If you hate public speaking – join Toastmasters. Or, if you dislike networking – force yourself to go to some key events or info sessions.
Keep connected to UniHub Events and Jobs Board throughout the year, and be open to trying something new or pushing out of your comfort zone. Make 2020 the year of difference!
