Get Covered For Work Experience

Get Covered For Work Experience

Are you in the final year or final semester of your degree? Curtin Careers, Employment & Leadership can provide students in any year with FREE work experience cover insurance, but we can only cover current students. Once you start sitting your final exams, you are out of luck and you will have to source your own insurance.

If your degree doesn’t include any practical placements, then you might already have been proactive and gone out there and got some related experience on your own. If you haven’t worked out that work experience is valuable and you’re in the position where you could actually fit in, say, a day a week – then get moving!

Think of work experience as an investment. You get the chance to apply your knowledge in the workplace, meet professionals and hopefully get a good referee who can vouch for your brilliance!

Work experience can come in a few formats. You might be:

  • Volunteering with a non-for-profit using discipline specific knowledge and skills
  • Supervised working for a couple of weeks on the job in a related field
  • Successfully placed on a formal vacation program.

Not all work experience placements will be paid but there are strict guidelines around this to protect you from exploitation.

To be eligible for free work experience insurance you need to complete the Workplace Rights and Responsibilities module, available online via Curtin Challenge.

Look for work experience opportunities on Curtin UniHub, have a look at voluntary positions on Seek or Volunteering WA or start networking and asking around.
