Sustainable Press Club Q&A

Sustainable Press Club Q&A

You are a new club, what was the idea behind starting up a Sustainable Press Club and what is your main focus?

Curtin Sustainable Press is a student -based media club focusing on Sustainability.

Our aim is to produce informative documentary video regarding the concept of sustainability pitched towards college/high school students and to provide social awareness of sustainability issues. The idea for the club derived from a group of students keenly looking to earn more experience by producing informative documentary film on the sustainability of local ecological, social and economic systems. To give you a better picture you can view an organisational chart and organisational aims of the club.

The concept of sustainability is not a new concept. However, the social awareness (of this concept) in Australia is not widespread. Such an important concept deserves more attention in Australian communities. Therefore, as passionate university students, we can only devote what we have – knowledge, passion and time towards promoting awareness. Creating documentaries is another effective way to deliver important information to this generation and the next.

Our association aims to provide a practical platform for students to come together and to gain diverse experience. By founding this club, we hope that all the participants will gain more practical experience, add value to their degrees and become more competitive than other university graduates.

Who would be interested in joining?

We believe that this club will be of interest to students who are studying the in the following areas and disciplines:

  • Environmental Science
  • Screen Arts
  • Journalism
  • Writing
  • Advertising
  • Sociology
  • Mass Communications
  • Urban and Regional Planning
  • Geography
  • International Relations
  • Economics
  • Business Law

What would you say to encourage students to join?

We can’t change the result or alter the outcome of a damaged environment but we can prevent further tragedy from happening. We won’t create a significant impact towards WA Society but we would like to create a remarkable legacy for Australia. We are aware and we have ambition! A motto may be “We are not the only creatures with souls but perhaps we are the only creatures with dreams.”

The Sustainable Press Club is also currently advertising for a new Editor in Chief.
