Getting Started in the Film, TV and Media Business

In the publication Getting Started in Film, TV and Interactive Media (2011), Screen Australia writes that tackling production companies and producers is the best way to gain work experience. It can be challenging, but you’ll need to approach companies to see if there are any opportunities. To start your hunt, check out resources such as The Production Book and Encore Directory.

You can also stay connected with industry news and opportunities via publications such as If Magazine and keep an eye on Pedestrian TV, Australian TV Jobs and the Grapevine – all sites that advertise jobs. Even if you don’t have enough experience to meet the job requirements, you can at least still discover who is hiring, what they’re looking for and build a contact list that could help you find work experience opportunities!

If it all seems a bit daunting, check out our Stop Googling, Start Networking online workshop or get in touch via [email protected] or call (08) 9266 7802
